The beta is available for the PC only. It begins with two maps: Dust and Dust2, and is designed to be at first a "subset" of the game. The ESEA has also issued bans against the seven players in question, saying that while the bans are currently set for one year, it reserves the right to extend them indefinitely. It noted that it has since implemented its own policy explicitly forbidding players, managers, and sponsors from betting on their own matches, adding, "We strongly encourage all organizations, regardless of their affiliation with Valve, to mirror and enforce these bans so that a clear message is sent—there is no place for match fixing in professional gaming."Finally Patch 1.3, released January 14, claimed to introduce more anti-cheating protections, but this was (understandably) light on details. As Ars readers know, there's nothing better than spotting a cheater, but I'm also cautious of being too hasty, because people online shout "cheat" all the time. It's not endemic but there are definite cheaters in Siege, and a wall hacker is an enormous problem in a game where you can be shot through most walls. Don't get me started on the lack of a structure to deal with griefers and teamkillers, because we could go on like this forever.Mortal Kombat X moves the timeline forward 25 years, giving the game the opportunity to show older versions of existing fighters as well as some of their kids. This translates into 24 playable characters, with a decent split between existing combatants and new ones. Returning characters include Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Kitana, Kenshi, a gray-haired Liu Kang, Raiden, and more. Eight characters are new, with four falling on the bad guy end of the spectrum and four humans that descend from "old" fighters. Those four also figure heavily into the game's storyline as Cassie Cage, the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, teams up with Jax's daughter Jacqui, Kenshi's son Takeda, and a descendant of Kung Lao named Kung Jin to basically save all the realms from Mortal Kombat 4's end boss, Shinnok, and his right-hand man, Quan ChiThe story mode uses the same structure as Mortal Kombat 9 and Injustice: Gods Among Us, slotting characters into chapters and having you go through a few fights with them before moving on. It's a decent way to get exposed to the different characters, but the story itself is all over the place. It starts a couple of years after the events of the previous game, then jumps ahead 25 years, but then a lot of the characters keep having flashbacks to events that happened five years before that. Some of the old fighters (including some who, annoyingly, aren't playable here) have become evil "revenants" that fight alongside Quan Chi, and keeping track of who is on what side in each part of the timeline is a chore. It all wraps up a little too quickly, too, with the four Kombat Kidz traipsing into just the right place at just the right time a few too many times for my tastes. On top of that, while the game still impressively transitions into and out of fights and its nice-looking cutscenes, a handful of Quick Time Events have been added to the proceedings, distracting from the storytelling a bit as you stare near the bottom of the screen just in case this cutscene happens to be one that contains a few lame button presses. While the lead characters, their backgrounds, and their motivations are far, far better here than they were in the games that came after Mortal Kombat 3 in the pre-reboot timeline, I still found the story to be a little disappointing, overall. The action in MKX builds off of the systems and mechanics of both the previous game and, to some extent, Injustice: Gods Among Us. The buttons, basic fighting, and concepts of a three-part super meter, combo breakers, X-rays, and EX versions of special moves are all pretty much intact, though now you can EX your throws, which cancels the throw and leaves the enemy standing there, ready for another set of attacks as long as you're quick about it. You can also execute a block breaker, which works similarly to the combo breakers but pushes an enemy back while you're blocking instead of when you're taking hits. The fighting feels faster and more fluid than the previous game, but some of the more basic juggle combos feel like they're a little easier to land, too.

Said warnings rolled out as early as July of 2015. The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team notified the community that operators who created servers that “falsify the contents of a player's profile or inventory” would be punished. There are a few CS: GO Twitch streamers who open hundreds of cases per week while spectators watch in hopes of capturing the moment where something of great rarity is found. One of these streamers is ONSCREENlol, a very popular personality who opened more than 10,000 cases in 2015Speaking of pro teams, again on Reddit poster FalZen noticed that Team Question Mark player Dupreeh posted that he was signing the team to a new sponsor today. It's yet to be announced, but a further bit of sleuthing points out that Team Secret, of Dota fame, have recently changed their Twitter handle from a Dota-specific one to the more general @teamsecret and were recently varified. They've also just opened a YouTube channel with the tagline "It's a Secret" and flashy intro vid:

The devs also say pre-order customers will be able to get into CS:GO "about a month before release" and confirm that there will be an open beta period for everyone to try "sometime between the pre-orders and release." At E3 Valve announced that CS:GO will be coming out on August 21 at the budget price of $15, which is nice. Here are the patch notes in full from Steam . Thermaltake's "Tt eSports" division has been steadily expanding its arsenal of gaming accessories since the brand's launch. After reviewing the Poseidon Z keyboard -- the first Kailh-equipped board we've tested -- it's fair to say that Tt eSports has potential in the gaming market. The brand has primarily centered its strategy upon affordable products to the competitive and streaming crowd, mainly offering products like LAN backpacks (for keyboards), mouse pads, headsets, eSports team jackets, and now keycaps. The company got off to a fine start. Big Picture mode makes the PC more television-friendly with large text and easy-to-navigate menus. And its unique controller, coming in October, merges the traditional video game controller with the precision of a mouse. Those two things with a little polish might be enough — but Valve’s long-term vision is a PC gaming world without Windows, and that makes things complicated. One of the reasons consoles are so compelling is that everything just works out of the box. You can buy hardware that’s as powerful as what everyone else has and expect that games will meet a minimum quality standard for years to come. The current spread of Steam Machine hardware is a confusing mess, and betrays the promise of console convenience.- Csgodouble AutoGambling BotWith the AWP’s great power comes equal responsibility. Whether in a 5-on-5 competitive game or in casual mode, you’ll put down $4,750 to buy an AWP. If that investment doesn’t pay off (or worse, if an opponent kills you and steals it), it can break your team’s economy for rounds to come. Other than the autosniper (aka the G3SG1/SCAR-20), the same can’t be said for other investments in CS:GO.Launched in January 2015, OPSkins Group Inc. intended to take advantage of the growing demand for a safe way to trade skins for money. The site partnered with BitPay in August last year and since then it has seen an ever-increasing demand for bitcoin transactions. Not long after launching, OPSkins saw a demand for bitcoin payments for CS:GO virtual items. This is not an uncommon thing nowadays for virtual item trades Team Fortress 2 trading site Dispenser.tf provides bitcoin trades. On the other side of legitimacy, Star Trek Online “gold seller” Divine Treasury accepts bitcoins for in game items (although this is against the terms of service). You can go to one of several sites, ‘csgo-jackpot.com’, ‘csgo-casino.com’, ‘csgoshuffle.com’ and ‘csgofast.com’ which work using the ‘jackpot system’ to produce winners. The jackpot system is a system where you put your skins in a shared pot, of sorts. The total value of your items that you put into the pot determines your percentage chance of winning. When you win, you get the entire pot full of everyone’s skins that have been bet.Steam has always provided localized pricing, so full price in the US and full price in other regions are very different things. This made exchanges between regions extremely appealing for many, as evidenced by boards like Steam Game Swap and sites like Steam Trading and Steam Exchange.

Beyond adding the long requested silenced variants of the M4 and USP, the Arms Deal update favorably added weapon skins to the game. To those from the outside it seemed like a minor addition to the budget-priced title in an effort for Valve to monetize it further. However, a large portion of those who actively played CS: GO saw it as a monumental addition similar to Team Fortress 2's cosmetic items. The reason some users have attempted to sell items outside of Valve’s official marketplace is simple: When a user sells an item through Valve’s marketplace, they can only use the proceeds to buy other weapon skins, or new games on Steam, said Minacov, who runs the company from his parent’s basement. As it turns out, many of those ideas were completely wrong, and it wasn't until the marketplace launched that Valve saw what its players wanted from custom-content.

For rifles, the changes boiled down to decreasing accuracy, and the latest CS:GO blog post details the rationale behind them: Valve was hoping to make spraying less appealing compared with burst fire. Instead, the patch made all forms of fire less accurate and people kept on spraying anyway, penalising the minority who do tap fire.A full roll-back is a spectacular step down for a company running a competitive game, and the saga has left many wondering (not for the first time) why Valve doesn't run larger trials before foisting changes on the whole population. This time, the magnitude of the misstep has clearly sunk in.
